3 NWO-GQT PhD grants available

Call for research proposals, deadline November 10, 2011

The GQT cluster invites all of its members to submit a proposal for PhD research on a subject in the GQT area, leading to a PhD at one of the universities participating in GQT.

Information and procedure

  • Each of the three available AIO positions will be funded by the NWO for a period of 4 years. Total amount of the grant: 200 k€.
  • Deadline for application: November 10, 2011, 23:59.
  • A committee of three senior GQT researchers, not applying for positions themselves, will advise the GQT board which proposals should be awarded funding. The committee's evaluation criteria will be
    1. scientific quality of the proposals,
    2. distribution of the AIO positions over GQT research themes and GQT members.
  • The final decision will be made by the GQT board and will be communicated to the GQT members around mid December, 2011.
  • Each awarded project should start no later than September 1, 2012. All AIO positions should be realized at one of the participating universities RUN, UvA or UU.
  • No university will be awarded funding exceeding 200 k€.
  • The possibility of matching constructions will be inventarized. At some participating universities, this may lead to the creation of two AIO positions instead of one, with a matching of 200 k€ by the hosting university.

Application requirements

  • The applicant should be a member of GQT with a permanent position at a Dutch university.
  • The proposal, written in English, must
    • have a total length not exceeding two A4 pages,
    • state the name and institution of the applicant,
    • specify the intended promotor, who is required to be full professor and member of GQT,
    • specify whether matching or third party funding is available/possible,
    • contain a title and description of the proposed research.
