The study of algebraic foliations sits at the boundary of different fields in mathematics, from dynamic and arithmetic to geometry and differential equations. In recent years, advances in birational geometry have been successfully applied to the study of global properties of holomorphic foliations. This led, for instance, to Brunella’s birational classification of foliations on surfaces. The goal of this PhD project is to explore various new problems and examples in this direction motivated and inspired by the Grothendieck-Katz conjecture.
